About Me
Hello! I’m Mia, a passionate and dedicated piano teacher and collaborative pianist with over 15 years of experience. I began my piano journey at the age of five and have had the privilege of studying and performing across China, Spain, Germany, the US, and Canada. Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to win multiple international piano competitions, including the Gold Medal for Solo Piano at the China-Japan-Korea International Youth Art Festival, 1st prizes in both Solo Piano and Collaborative Piano at the Yangtze River Cup National Piano Competition, and 2nd prize at the 2013 MTNA Piano Competition in Illinois.
I’m also deeply committed to exploring new music and had the honor of premiering composer Chen Yao’s "Ad Libitum" for Timpani and Piano at the RED NOTE New Music Festival in 2014.

Collaborative Performance & Teaching Experience
As a collaborative pianist, I perform regularly with a variety of vocalists, instrumentalists, and chamber ensembles. I've had the pleasure of performing at prestigious events such as the Music Theater Bavaria, the Beyond the Music Festival, and the Vancouver International Song Institute. During my time completing my Artist Diploma in Collaborative Piano at UBC, I performed with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble and the Contemporary Players. Additionally, I’ve worked as a choir pianist at West Point Grey Academy and have been with the Vancouver Bach Choir since 2017. I am also currently involved with the Vancouver Extracurricular Music Society, offering collaborative piano support for local music programs.

Teaching Philosophy
As a teacher, I believe every student has unique strengths and talents. I strive to inspire and nurture my students' love for music, helping them reach their full potential while developing their technical skills and musical expression. I’ve worked with students of all ages and levels, from young beginners to more advanced players preparing for exams and performances.

I have a background in piano pedagogy, having been a graduate teaching assistant with a full scholarship at Illinois State University, where I received specialized training in teaching techniques. I currently teach regularly in Vancouver and Richmond. My approach is to make learning music both enjoyable and rewarding. I strive to bring out the best in each student, creating a positive and supportive environment that fosters growth and creativity. I look forward to the opportunity to work with you and help you achieve your musical goals.

Education & Mentorship
I hold an Artist Diploma in Collaborative Piano Studies from UBC and earned my Master’s degrees in Piano Performance and Collaborative Piano at Illinois State University, where I also received full scholarships. My undergraduate studies were completed at Inner Mongolia University, where I earned a BA in Piano Performance and English.

Throughout my musical journey, I’ve had the honor of studying with distinguished mentors such as Rena Sharon, Geoffrey Duce, Tuyan Tonnu, Sayá Sangidor, and Tsetsen. I’ve also performed in master classes with renowned musicians like Olga Kern, Graham Johnson, and JoAnn Kulesza, among others. I was also the recipient of the Hans & Alicia Fuchs Scholarship in 2014.
